Who is YouthRUs?
YouthRUs is a group of youth from Lunenburg and Queens Counties who were brought together in response to the Youth Initiative Project.
What is the Youth Initiative Project?
The Youth Initiative Project is a project that was put on by the Nova Scotia Division of the Canadian Mental Health Association with funding from Manulife Financial. The project took place from April to June, 2010 and occured at three locations throughout Nova Scotia: Lunenburg/Queens Counties, Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby area, and Cape Breton. The goals of the project were to increase youth mental health and illness awareness, empower youth to help themselves and others, and link youth with the professionals in their area that are there to help. These goals were acheived by bringing together a group of dynamic youth who had an interest in helping others their own age. Together with the Youth Project Facilitator and Creative Coordinator, the group of youth (who dubbed themselves “YouthRUs”) put together two resources, this website and a reference card, to distribute to youth across Lunenburg and Queens Counties.
